Opportunity Grants 2014
Engagement through Guitars: An Educator Mini-Grant application was expanded to fund the purchase of 22 guitars and warranties to support a Level 5 school that previously had no musical instruments.
Young Persons Concert: This multi-faceted program allowed students to demonstrate their understanding of the concept of contrast through musical performance, photography and writing.
New Bedford Whaling Museum After-School Program: Through a cooperative funding effort, project students learned about whales and whaling history by exploring the Museum’s Research Library and Archives. The purchase of Chromebooks enables students to have learning continuity between the Museum and their school.
Homework Helpers Cable TV Show for Fall 2014 – Spring 2015: The NBEF responded to a request from school Administration to reinstate the call-in math homework cable TV show Homework Helpers for the 2014-2015 academic year, with funding distributed in the Fall, 2014.
Gomes Girl Scouts: This is a second mini-grant application that was expanded into a discretionary grant. Through a cooperative funding effort, NBEF supported nearly 50 girls in the Fab Factor program, which teaches STEM career exploration, math skills through budgeting, and fitness through nutrition and kinesiology.
