The New Bedford Education Foundation (NBEF) is a non-profit organization that supports educational opportunities for New Bedford public schools’ students beyond what is funded through the school budget.
NBEF solicits and channels funds used to enhance and expand the educational opportunities provided to students of New Bedford public schools. NBEF is independent of the School Committee and public revenue sources, and is a fund of the Community Foundation of Southeastern Massachusetts.
The port city of New Bedford presents an opportunity to seed and develop competencies in Arts, World Languages, and STEM (Science, Technologies, Engineering, Mathematics), including marine sciences. Our sea heritage is rich in diversity, with artistic and cultural depth reflective of two centuries of trans-global trade.
NBEF works with regional arts, cultural and STEM resources to extend learning from the classroom into our community and around the globe.
Mission & Vision
The New Bedford Education Foundation (NBEF) is a catalyst to obtain funding for initiatives to enrich education beyond what can be funded within the local school budget. A portion of the fund is invested so that resources are available in perpetuity, while a portion is distributed to assist with programs that encourage excellence.
NBEF helps New Bedford Public Schools’ students fulfill their potential and enrich their educational experience by providing the tools to excel in the areas of Arts, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) and World Languages. NBEF commits to enhancing each student’s capacity to realize success and fulfillment in the schools and in the community. NBEF supports excellence in New Bedford Public Schools’ programs by providing resources that help make academic and extra-curricular experiences exceptional and transforming.
